The World Title Situation
Entering the final stop on the 2013 ASP World Championship Tour, Mick Fanning and Kelly Slater (USA), 41, remain in contention for the ASP World Title. Following Fanning’s fifth place at the Rip Curl Pro Portugal, Slater must win the Pipe Masters to surpass Fanning for the ASP World Title. If Slater is to win the event, Fanning must place 3rd or better to claim the title for himself.
Will Slater win Pipe and claim a 12th world title?
Pipeline Season Ender
This years tour champion was almost corwned before the final event of the year; this has happened numerous times in the ASPs history. Each time it is a let down for fans.

Shark Attack in J-Bay ; gruesome shark eats the body while a kayaker tries to stave off the beast. In Oct 8 Jay Scrivner was attacked receiving 30 stitches and considers himself very lucky. Great White sightings in Malibu & in La Jolla last week. This year, NOAA researchers determined great white sharks make up a distinct genetic group that doesn’t have a high risk of extinction. Yet the State of Cal as possible endangered species which paves the way for another study.

ASP Announces Media Deal?
The deal is with ESPN, YouTube and Facebook across the linear broadcast, digital and social media spectrums. The deal includes a highlight show of each tour stop; and all events webcast off of the ASP Youtube channel.

Julian Wilson boosted a ridiculous alley-oop during the Rip Curl Pro at Supertubes; it immediately went viral and the comparisons to JJF’s alley-oop at the Oakley Pro Bali began.

Nat Young receives ASP Rookie of the Year Award
Nat Young was in the running early along with Hawaiian Sebastian Zietz then ran away with it. A great rookie year with two 2nd place finishes; a 3rd place; and two 9th places.

ASP dishes out pain on JOB
Jamie O’Brien and Ricardo Dos Santos got into a little fisticuffs back in August during the Bbong trials at Tahiti. The ASP has fined Obien $5K and Jamie won’t be allowed to surf in the Triple Crown events including his beloved PipeMasters — an event he’s won. O’Brien said: “I dunno, whatever, it’s all good. Contests don’t mean anything, anyways. I hope the waves just drop, that’s what I hope. I hope everyone comes here for the Pipe Masters and the waves just suck.”
