SCOTT’s Best Song EVER

Surf News for the Week…

1) Eddie Aikau invites sent out and opening ceremonies set for Dec 5th
This happens each and every year and the Quiksilver in Honor of Eddie Aikau is a special event for many reasons.

Eddie Aaron Gold
Aaron Gold

The feel good story here is : AARON GOLD — Aaron has been riding The Bay since he was around 13 years of age, but only emerged on the international scene during the past two years. Memorable performances at venues like Jaws and Cortes have been captured by the media, though many times with Aaron only being recognized as an “Unidentified” surfer.

Driven purely by a love for riding big waves, with no sponsors to his name, Aaron Gold will no longer go unrecognized.

My take: I hope that the event runs this year, there would be some poetic justice in that the Eddie documentary aired on ESPN last month, seems like it would be a good fit from a timing perspective.

2) The whole MAYA-Gate controversy is slowly burning to an end in the news cycle, but not without ken Skin Dog Collins chiming in on Facebook with rather eloquent and sincere insight. Ken Collins is slowly but surely becoming a man of the people. Mayor of Santa Cruz–perhaps.? Check out the video clip with Skinny’s insight.

And lastly SURFLINE did a great little QnA with Maya and Carlos Burle and they discuss most everything.

Except the big question: “Was it a completed ride?” and / or do “Biggest wave ever” claims need to be accompanied by a completed ride to the channel or safety?

3) Sadly Buttons Kaluhiokalani passed away earlier this week. The internet and social media lit up with sadness and heartfelt tributes. EOS did a really cool tribute video. Everything has been said: Aloha Buttons Rest In Peace
There is a paddle out this Sat Nov 9th at Malibu 1130-3pm

Also: 9 year old Delaney Kuepper is raising money for Buttons’ children via a surf marathon type event; I’ll put that link to that great cause by a great kid helping other kids:

4) I’ll be producing THE BOARDROOM Surfboard Show in Del Mar on May 17 & 18 and this year honoring Icon of Foam ; great surfer, great Hawaiian, great Shaper– the legend — Mr. Ben Aipa.
