CLOUDBREAK had a mammoth swell roll through a few days ago;

  • A mega large, purple blob of swell showed up between NZ and Australias east coast
  • Moved its way toward the coral sea and bam ; a big one;
  • Not as clean as the epic ThunderCloud swell of the 18 months ago during the Volcom Fiji Pro – a little windy and chunky
  • Rasta and some others were on it; you can see some of the images from that swell on Tim Bonyathon’s FB page and they will surely start to filter onto thte interent soon, via Surfline, Surfermag.com, The Inertia, STAB et al.

      Nationalism important to grow the sport
      Eight surfers per team, 32 surfers total, USA v. Brazos v. Aussies v. Hawaiians
      Teams must come top 32, then cherry pick remaining spots from wqs
      Hold it at Sunset Beach

    http://www.coastalwatch.com/surfing/13530/can-we-all-just-agree-that-john-john-is-the-best-surfer-in-the-world-right-now-sean-doherty-on

      Can we all agree that John John is the best surfer in the world right now.
      Where others (Kelly, Mick, Parko et al) had no rhythm, JJF made the chaos of a the French beach breaks look tame-able.
      Doherty sensed that the lackadaisical attitude of past wins is gone, and that fire has crept into his eyes.
      Gabe will go into the Portugal event with a simple equation in his head – win Portugal, win the World Title

      Webber Wave Pools will open to the public in September 2015.
      STAB magazine is reporting that a wave pool is opening in Qld next year
      captained by shaper-turned-manmade wave scientist, Greg Webber, just took another step towards actually producing the waves you used to draw on schoolbooks.
      The company has just signed a memorandum of understanding with surfer-entrepreneur David Baird for the construction of the first artificial wave pool in Australia.
      I’ve heard through various sources (one of which is working on the project) the Kelly’s pool is very close ; they are all comfortable that the video small scale representation we have all seen ARE scalable to a six foot wave

    TECHNO BUTTER 2 — YEEWWW YEEWWW YEEEEWWW !!

    WETSUIT SEASON

    PSYCHOFREAK 4.5/3.5MM
    technobuttery

    NEW TECHNOBUTTER 2: O’Neill’s exclusive and improved evolution of our original TechnoButter, the world’s most advanced neoprene. TECHNOBUTTER 2 offers the same lightweight quick-drying performance, but now it’s more durable with improved velcro resistance.

    8 Plasma Wrist and Ankle Seals
    9 Patented Z.E.N. Zip Closure System with Drainhole
    10 Contortionist Seamless Shoulder
    11 Strategic Seamless Paddle Zones
    12 LSD: Lumbar Seamless Design

      I’m on O’Neill guy; have been for a longtime; since the days of shop employee in at Sunset Surfboards in First st in Encinitas;
      Tim Bernardy was the rep and would roll in with John Gothard senior. I just received my new ONEILL fullsuits. BTW I pay for them. Nothing free here.
      But… there are so many great wetsuits out there
      The angle this season is, since the rubber is so stretchy and flexible and movable , why not go with all 2mm or all 3mm suits. An all 3mm suit today is more flexible moveable than an all 2mm suit was 5 years ago.
      The HURLEY Suits look nice; I don’t have any personal experience with them, but I’ll try one out if they want to send one my way – Scott@surfboardshow.com
      HURLEY does things right ; with a purpose, as much marketing muscle as they have, it is matched with design, and technology; Bob’s a surfer and wants to use the best so he makes it the best. Plus they have NIKE design culture behind them.

    HOT AIR Balloon goes down at Cardiff

    Shark Attacks – A 23-year-old surfer has lost an arm and his other hand in a shark attack at a beach near Esperance in southern Western Australia.
    The attack happened at Wylie Bay Beach about 11:30am (AWST) on Thursday.

    EL NINO

      Forecast scientists are suggesting that a mild El Nino is taking place
      They point to recent spat of western pacific typhoons as proof of warm water el Niño conditions.
      Mark Sponsler’s; STORMSURF video forecasts are very good source of info for understanding the science and nuance of forecasting models.
